The Moreau Valley Chapter of Quail Forever held a mentored Youth / New Hunter dove hunt at the club on September 5th, 2015. The event started on Friday evening at the club house where 15 participants and many mentors met. We started off with registration and safety a overview with the new hunters and then proceeded down to the skeet range for a shotgun familiarization and a little skeet shooting. A few of the hunters had never shot a shotgun before but were eager to try their hand at breaking some clay targets. After shooting some clays we all made are way back up to the clubhouse where Conservation Agent Nathaniel Hodges discussed with the group the importance of gun safety and the dangers of what could happen if they didn’t take gun safety seriously. Up next was Dean Stucker a member of Moreau Valley Quail forever and a Missouri Department of Conservation Private Land Conservationist, Dean discussed Dove identification and also emphasized safety to the group. Saturday morning started off early with mentors arriving around 5am to ready everything……And then the fun really began. Hunters were paired off with their mentors and dropped off for their 1st dove hunt. Those not mentoring heard a lot of shooting and when the hunters came back from the 1st hunt of the day they observed a lot of smiles and some exciting hunting stories from the group.

The Moreau Valley Quail Forever chapter would like to thank the California Shooter’s Club for the opportunity to hold this event at the club and allow us the ability to be apart of these new hunters memorable 1st dove hunt. We hope that we can hold these type events for many years to come. We also want to thank all our many volunteers who without their help events like this would not be possible.
